November 14th each year is World Diabetes Day.
Each year I hope and believe we are closer to a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
Over 29 years I have lived with this horrific auto-immune disease that is wrecking havoc on my body, whether I can do a damn thing about it or not.
I have lived with the jokes, the cruelty, the silent judgement of others about a disease I did absolutely nothing to deserve.
Each waking day I make complicated math decisions on the fly to keep my self alive. One wrong calculation could kill me.
Everyday I try to have a smile on my face, tell others I’m going to be ok, when I know deep inside that what this disease is doing to my body is slowly killing, and I can’t do a thing to stop it.
After 29 years, when you go into an eye Dr’s office for a retinal bleed and they tell me my eyes look good for someone with Diabetes for 25+ years.
I’m 32 years old and fear what my life may look like in the next 20 because of our healthcare system and my ability to get the medicines and supplies I need to deal with this stupid disease.
So today, don’t just like this post, use your voice, your social media, your email, whatever it may be and let our Legislature know, that Diabetes is a priority for you and this country and that we won’t silently sit by and just let another November 14th go by.
